Sniffed out by Slim
One of Wisconsin’s most wanted is now in prison because of Slim, one of the trained German Shepherds utilized by the Madison Police Department. A story in the Capital Times described the dog’s courage:
“[Officer] Corcoran began yelling into the dark toward the marsh, ‘Madison Police K9, give yourself up or the dog will be sent in to find you,'” DeSpain said.
Richards didn’t budge, so Slim went off leash.
“A few seconds later the officers heard ‘I give up, I give up,'” DeSpain said.
The suspect thought he might have a broken leg but the pain was from where Slim clamped down on it.
“In the end, one of Madison’s most wanted had two chances of getting away, slim and none,” DeSpain said, “And Slim took the lead.”
Like Slim, a 3-year-old born in the Netherlands, our dogs are of the finest European breeds that offer the best qualities in protection dogs, namely courage, loyalty, versatility, and ease of training. The same markers that make trained German Shepherds such effective police dogs are the reason for their rise in popularity among private individuals and families seeking protection and companionship.
